The Mexican government announced that it successfully concluded the case regarding the alleged denial of freedom of association and collective bargaining rights at Grupo Yazaki, located in León, Guanajuato, under the USMCA Rapid Response Labor Mechanism.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that since 2019, the company found superficial cracks in the production floor of the León plant and, between September 2023 and October 2025, carried out structural studies and verifications. After a review, the agency identified that there was no explicit order for the 'immediate closure' of the plant. Despite this, Yazaki closed the plant before December 4, 2025, the date on which the union ballot process was held. This closure impacted the results of the process, as more than 70 percent of the personnel at the León plant had already been laid off. In addition, it was identified that the company did not follow the mandatory legal procedure for a collective closure, as it did not submit it to the resolution of a labor court.
The agency highlighted that the company has carried out various actions regarding freedom of association and collective bargaining in the workplace, including the publication and dissemination of a commitment letter of neutrality in union affairs and a document with codes of conduct for the company's personnel. In this way, the Governments of Mexico and the United States agreed to the formal closure of this case. Yazaki is a Japanese company founded in 1941, specialized in the manufacturing of automotive wire harnesses, automotive components, power distribution systems, and electronic solutions for the automotive industry.
