A worrying trend is the disconnect between productivity and income in Mexico

Between 2019 and 2026, average real wages per worker in Mexico's manufacturing industry increased by 60.2%, while the real value of output per worker decreased by 3.3%.

Even more concerning: between 2025 and 2026, real wages grew by 2.4%, but output per worker fell by 4.0%.

This is not the fault of the workers. The problem is that productivity has stagnated while productive investment has declined for several quarters in an environment marked by uncertainty and weakening business confidence.

The result is companies with higher labor costs without equivalent increases in productivity, in an economy that is barely growing. Competitiveness, profitability, and the capacity to generate new jobs are all deteriorating.
