Bell Cyber and Cohere deploy AI model for Canadian cybersecurity operations

The model is being integrated into Bell Cyber's Autonomous Security Operations Centre (ASOC). Bell Canada and Cohere unveiled a domain-specific cybersecurity AI model during the Bell Cybersecurity Summit in Toronto on September 23. This large language model (LLM), developed using Cohere's AI technology and Bell Cyber's data, aims to enhance threat investigations and streamline analyst workflows. The model is integrated into Bell Cyber's Autonomous Security Operations Centre (ASOC) to analyze security information effectively. It is designed to reduce the time analysts spend on gathering and interpreting data, enabling quicker responses to threats. The deployment marks the first customer-facing solution from the collaboration between Bell and Cohere, with AI processing occurring in a Canadian-hosted environment.

This advancement underscores the growing importance of AI in cybersecurity, providing Canadian organizations with enhanced tools to combat cyber risks while ensuring sensitive information remains secure. TORONTO — Bell Canada and Cohere announced the deployment of a domain-specific cybersecurity AI model within Bell Cyber’s security operations at the Bell Cybersecurity Summit in Toronto on Sept. 23. Built using Cohere’s enterprise AI technology and Bell Cyber’s cybersecurity data, the large language model (LLM) is reportedly designed to accelerate threat investigations and equip analysts with more relevant analysis. Per a Sept. 23 press release, this model is trained for cybersecurity using Bell Cyber data and is reportedly being integrated into Bell Cyber’s Autonomous Security Operations Centre (ASOC). The model is designed to analyze and summarize security information, surface the context most relevant to an investigation, and support standardized investigative workflows.

It intends to reduce the time analysts spend gathering and interpreting information. The model is reportedly now running in production on Bell AI Fabric infrastructure, with AI processing and sensitive security information remaining within a Canadian-hosted environment. Bell says the deployment marks the first customer-facing solution developed through Bell and Cohere’s strategic AI collaboration. Bell Cyber says ASOC uses AI and automation to detect, triage and contain threats at machine speed. “AI is changing both the scale of cyber risk and the tools available to defenders. By grounding Cohere’s enterprise AI technology in Bell Cyber’s data, workflows and operational expertise, we have developed a model purpose-built to support cybersecurity investigations.

It can help analysts move from alert to informed action faster and more consistently, while Canadian-hosted processing gives us greater control over sensitive security information and keeps human expertise at the centre of critical decisions,” said John Menezes, President and CEO, Bell Cyber. “Cohere builds secure enterprise AI solutions tailored to each organization’s data, workflows, and operating requirements. This collaboration applies that approach to cybersecurity–combining Cohere’s technology and globally recognized model customization capabilities with Bell Cyber’s domain expertise and Bell AI Fabric’s Canadian infrastructure to create a specialized capability for one of the most demanding enterprise environments,” added Michael Pelosi, Country Manager, Canada, Cohere.
