Automaker cites Mideast conflict, fuel prices for reductions

Logistical problems due to the Iran war are causing Toyota Motor Corp. to cut production by 100,000 units, the automaker said.
The cuts mainly affect gasoline vehicles made for Asia and the Middle East.
The 100,000 figure is an increase from the 83,000-unit reduction the company previously announced. Models affected include the nonhybrid RAV4 and Avalon and the Chinese market versions of the bZ3X, bZ7 and Camry.
This is the third revision to Toyota’s 2026 production forecast. It reduced domestic production of Middle East and North Africa-bound vehicles by 40,000 in March and April as hostilities affected the Strait of Hormuz and oil prices surged.
Despite the lingering effects of the war on oil prices, Toyota is boosting Japanese production by 4,200 units, increasing RAV4 and Land Cruiser 250 manufacturing. In the U.S., Toyota has started production of the RAV4 hybrid in Georgetown, Ky. The plant, which is receiving $2 billion in capital investments, will also build a fully electric Highlander SUV later this year.
