Mexican manufacturers, technology providers, security organizations and regional governments are positioned to benefit from increased technology transfer, business partnerships and innovation-led investment.
South Korea is deepening its technological and commercial engagement with Mexico through a new business mission focused on advanced mobility, artificial intelligence, drones and automotive innovation, while expanding its institutional presence in northern Mexico to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties.
The 2026 Korea Mobility Trade Mission, organized by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), brought five South Korean technology companies to Mexico City to explore business opportunities with local partners. The initiative includes approximately 40 business meetings with Mexican companies and a strategic visit to Mexico City’s C5 security and monitoring center to identify opportunities in urban security, data analytics, surveillance technologies and smart mobility solutions.
The mission reflects growing interest among South Korean firms in participating in strategic sectors of Mexico’s economy, particularly those linked to advanced manufacturing, digital transformation, intelligent mobility and public security. It also comes as KOTRA strengthens its footprint in Mexico through the opening of a new office in Monterrey, reinforcing the importance of the country’s northeastern industrial corridor for Korean investment.
“This initiative is supported by TS, a Korean government organization dedicated to the development of the transportation and mobility sector, whose objective is to support the internationalization of small and medium-sized technology companies,” said Hong Ji Kim, Deputy Director, KOTRA Mexico.
“These five companies are interested in the Mexican market. They are companies developing solutions for mobility, security, artificial intelligence, drones and auto parts, sectors that currently show great growth potential in Mexico,” she added.
Korean Firms Target Growth Sectors in Mexico
The business mission highlights several technology areas that align with Mexico’s industrial modernization efforts and growing demand for advanced digital solutions. Among the participating companies is ASSETTA, a developer of commercial drones designed for industrial, agricultural and security applications. The company has developed proprietary technologies for manufacturing vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) drones, paper drones and fiber-optic flight systems, while also producing key components in-house.
In the automotive sector, JPC Automotive is seeking to expand its customer base in Mexico. The company manufactures plastic components and interior vehicle parts supplied to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers across the global automotive industry.
According to KOTRA, the company already maintains business relationships with manufacturers operating in northern Mexico but sees significant opportunities to deepen its participation in the country’s automotive ecosystem.
“They already have a presence in Mexico, primarily linked to manufacturers located in the northern part of the country, but they are seeking to expand their client portfolio and strengthen their participation within the Mexican automotive industry,” Kim said.
The mission also includes TECHTREE INNOVATION, which specializes in digital twin technology, artificial intelligence and high-precision geospatial modeling. Its platform creates virtual replicas of cities, industrial facilities and complex environments with accuracy levels exceeding 95%, supporting applications in public security, defense, infrastructure planning, smart cities and operational simulation. Meanwhile, Coconut Silo, a Hyundai Motor Company spin-off, showcased artificial intelligence and big data analytics solutions designed to improve logistics operations, transportation management and commercial mobility systems.
Security Partnership Advances Digital Twin Applications
Beyond business matchmaking, the mission has already generated tangible collaboration opportunities. As part of the visit, TECHTREE INNOVATION signed a memorandum of understanding with Corporativo Ultra, a Mexican private security company, to evaluate the implementation and commercialization of advanced security technologies in Mexico.
The agreement focuses on urban security platforms, simulation environments and specialized training solutions for public security agencies, military organizations and government institutions. Alberto Milla, Commercial Director, Corporativo Ultra, said the company sees strong potential for digital twin technology in Mexico’s security sector.
“We found it to be a very interesting solution because of the platform’s capabilities for urban security, simulation and training of military, naval and public security personnel. We believe there is potential to implement and commercialize it in Mexico,” he said.
The companies will explore applications ranging from operational planning and emergency response simulations to infrastructure monitoring and situational awareness platforms.
Monterrey Office Reinforces Regional Ties
The growing collaboration between South Korea and Mexico extends beyond the trade mission. KOTRA recently inaugurated a new office in Monterrey, a move that strengthens economic ties between South Korea and the industrial states of northeastern Mexico, including Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas. The opening brought together government officials, diplomats and business leaders from both countries and reflects the increasing importance of the region as a manufacturing, logistics and investment hub.
The Monterrey office is expected to facilitate new trade and investment projects in strategic sectors such as advanced manufacturing, automotive production and energy while strengthening connections between Korean and Mexican companies. Among the participants was Beatriz del Cos Lara, Representative of the Government of Tamaulipas in Nuevo Leon, who emphasized the role of foreign investment in regional economic development, reported MBN.
“KOTRA’s establishment in Nuevo Leon represents a major opportunity to strengthen the commercial relationship with Korea and continue positioning Tamaulipas as a competitive and trustworthy state for foreign investment,” Del Cos Lara said. “We will continue building bridges that create more opportunities for our companies and our people.”
Northeast Mexico Emerges as Strategic Korean Investment Hub
KOTRA’s expanding presence is particularly relevant for Tamaulipas, where South Korean companies such as LG, POSCO and Samkwang already operate. Their investments have contributed to manufacturing growth, employment generation and the development of export-oriented supply chains across the region.
The Monterrey office will be led by Jaehoon Choi and was inaugurated in the presence of Kang Kyung Sung, President, KOTRA Global; Sanghui Lee, Chargé d’Affaires, Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Mexico; and representatives of the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade (COMCE) Northeast chapter.
Together, the Korea Mobility Trade Mission and the opening of KOTRA’s Monterrey office underscore South Korea’s growing commitment to Mexico as a strategic destination for technology partnerships, manufacturing expansion and innovation-driven investment. As both countries seek deeper integration across advanced industries, sectors such as mobility, artificial intelligence, logistics, automotive manufacturing and public security are emerging as key areas of collaboration.
